Toy Fair 2012/Valentines Day 2012

It is a new year and again Boo, Muck, Rob, Stich, Toxic and I are getting ready to head to New York City for Toy Fair! Toy Fair is always over Valentines day so it is a little combo celebration. 2012 is going to be a great year for ZombieZoo as there is so much happening at the zoo! We have changed the fabric on the plush and will be showing that at our booth #4942! The Zombies are proud of their super soft and cuddly feel and this is Extra soft! Even the mini versions have the extra softness. We also have had a great response from other toy companies, game companies and publishers about expanding the brand. This will be the year of the ZOMBIEZOO invasion!

Rob catches up on the news!

They can even be cute, as discovered by Neecy Twinem, a Sandia Park resident who created and sells a line of ZombieZoo stuffed animals.

“I have always wanted to do something — I don’t know if darker is the word— but something a little edgier,” says Twinem, who wrote and illustrated children’s books before inventing the ZombieZoo. “I love zombies, but I didn’t want gory zombies. That’s not really my thing.”

Twinem says she was doodling around with different ideas for animals, but nothing stuck until she incorporated her love of anything cheerfully undead, like Día de los Muertos. She quickly turned a single prototype for a stitched-up black cat into a five-animal line with a rabbit a monkey, a pig and a snake.

That was 2009. Before she knew it, she was exhibiting at a New York toy fair and being written up in the Wall Street Journal. Locally, her toys are available at the University of New Mexico Bookstore, Stranger Factory in Nob Hill and the Kaboom Test Labs near Cottonwood Mall.

Though she’s reluctant to ascribe a particular philosophy to her love of zombies, Twinem says they could be having a moment because the world is saturated with messages to conform to one idea of beauty, and people in need of something different respond to characters that could be monstrous. Zombies and zombie stories have a flexibility that sets them apart from vampires or werewolves (Zombie pirates! Zombie bride! Zombie doctor!), so they can be perfect avatars of people who want a monster with identity.

ZombieZoo dolls are popular with adults who like their zombies cute and quirky, as in the popular “Plants vs. Zombies” cellphone app and online game. Kids like the dolls too, but in a different way.

“Kids, they know the zombies are cool. They don’t know why they’re cool, but they love the monsters,”

Back in February during Toy Fair 2011, I scouted out the best new plush toys at the show. I seemed to have missed one, although I think I know why. Plush animals are supposed to be cute and cuddly. They’re not supposed to want to eat your brains, right? Well there’s no time like the present, where zombie mania is at its peak, to challenge such notions and instill a love for all things undead with your little ones.

Fresh from the mind of children’s book author/illustrator Neecy Twinem, ZombieZoo includes a full cast of characters complete their own back story and setting. There’s Boo the cat, Muck the monkey, Rob the rabbit, Stich the pig and Toxic the snake.

This is NOT your typical zoo! ZombieZoo is full of undead animals that are cute – and, at the same time, kinda creepy (but never gory). Plus, unlike ordinary zoos, the animals at ZombieZoo are in charge! They don’t depend on people … there doesn’t even seem to be any people around. Each Zombie has its own personality – meet them all below!

Five Zombies to Choose From

BOO: A curious explorer who often leads the other Zombies on adventures in hopes of finding what lies beyond the Zoo! His weakness: fish sticks.
MUCK: A happy guy who’s always ready to party. He eats as much popcorn and animal crackers as he can get his hands on!
ROB: A quiet guy who’s a great listener – look at those ears!
STITCH: The cleanest pig around, she’s always taking bubble baths. Her prized possession: hand sanitizer!

once upon a time there was a zombie zoo. The head of the zombie zoo is Boo, hes the cat. then there is Rob the poetry writer, hes the rabbit. Muck is the most our going, hyper zombie of all, he is the monkey. Toxic enjoys biting hands, and to win at everything, she is the ssnake. last but not least is Stich. Stich is the pig who is obsessed with hygien.

One day when Rob found out there was a zombie Zoo Poetry SLAM, he sighned up for it. but when Toxic found out she had to sign up because she has to win at every thing. of corse she had no idea what she was doing, but she had to try. All day they wrote. Rob had writers block, and Toxic had no idea what she was doing.

when Boo was looking down from the balcony he saw Stich washing her hands. "There is a shock" he wispered to him self. he sees Muck Swinging from a palm tree smiling humming and eating popcorn. he laughs. Next he sees Toxic trying to write poetry and drinking a diet soda. then Rob has a pile of crumpled up lined paper in a big pile. Boo decides to go see what was wrong.

On his way he sees Stich run up to him and rubs hand sanitzer n Boos paws. "Not now: yells Boo. When Boo arrives he hears punk music playing inside.he walks in and sees Rob laying upside down, ears falling off the bed and rob almost in tears. Boo asks "what's-"Rob interups Boo and says "I have writers block and the Zombie Zoo Poetry SLAM is tomorrow and i cant write anything good! What do i do?!?! and to make matters worse i heard Toxics poem and its really good! WAHA!" Boo is shocked at Toxic because she knows how much this means to Rob. Toxic slithers in and acts like she didnt hear anything and says..."het what are you doing?" Rob leaves the room. and Boo follows along. Toxic now does know how much this means to him and leaves the poem on his bed and leaves.

she sees Muck she goes to himand starts balling all her problems to Muck. Muck plays with his animal crakers and listens. when Toxic is finished he says "You did the right thing giving him the poem." "Havent you been listening it wasnt mine i took it from his poem box for ideas!"Muck answers back "Well you did the right thing giving it back." "I know but when Rob finds out it was his in the first place he will hate me forever!" stich walks in rubbing her hooves with hand sanitizer abd says" Go confess to Rob" both of their faces filled with shock. Muck says " but then he will know he did it. "but he will know you are doing the right thing and you are being honest with him." Stich says. "I'de better get over there before t is to late." Toxic says.Wait!" says stich "you need to be clean!" "thanks for the help!" yells Toxic as she slichers away.

When Toxic got there everything was the same as when she left earlier that day. Toxic waited there for someone to show up. when Boo walked in he said "what are you doing here?" "Looking for Rob" Toxic says. "Oh he is out back." he says. "Thank you Bye now." Toxic says. "Your welcome and bye." says Boo.

Toxic slichers out and sees Rob looking into a puddle. she goes over and says "I am so-" Rob interups and says "Its ok." "I was just trying to get ideas i never ment to hurt you." toxic said."I know but i wrote one do you want to hear it?"

"i would love to!" she says. "Ok here it goes,

A friend is a frend

who will never let you down

and here is my noun-

Toxic

Toxic is a good friend

a friend tell the end

she will always tell the truth and will be happy when you lose a tooth

a friend tell the end

is what she will be

i will always forgive her

its my destiny!"

"Oh i love Rob! it is definatly a winner!" "you think?" "OH YES!"

the next day after the Zombie Zoo Poetry SLAMRob got first place! all the zombies through him a party! they were all so proud!

Dolls? A doll that a boy will use?

No, Zombies!

Vampires are for girls, but Zombies are for boys and girls of all ages!

It's ironic that I was asked to review this. I am a huge Zombie fan. I just finished watching the English mini series, Dead Set, where the contestants stuck on the Big Brother show don't realize that Zombies are taking over outside. I am currently watching the Zombie show, The Walking Dead, based on the comic book series.

Of course my son is now at the age where he wants to do whatever I am doing, whatever I am seeing, he's a regular mini-me. That includes telling everyone he is watching Dead Set, meanwhile he wouldn't sleep another wink if he really had. But with these adorable undead dolls, he can have Zombie friends without being scared! Doesn't everyone want to visit the undead animals in Zombie Zoo?

Zombie Fare

It was so fun! A warm afternoon in Albuquerque at Zap...Oh, (a kids clothing and gift store) the little Zombies were set loose! They escaped from their cage to party party party! There were eye-ball chocolates, gummy worms and zombie cupcakes! Lots of kids, teens and adults came to get their Zombie and meet the Zookeeper (Neecy Twinem)! Yes, she was there too, signing the debut posters and trying to keep things out-of control. She brought fun giant ZombieZoo cutouts and one with Muck's body for everyone to put their head into, so they could be a Zombie too! You too could have a ZombieZoo party!

Ok, it has been crazy. Totally crazy here at the zoo. Those little zombiezoo critters arrived and the invasion has begun. They are being fluffed and primped. Looking good to meet the world. Hot summer days!

This was a warm week at ZOMBIEZOO®! All the critters were hot and toasty. Boo slept most days and only came out in the cool of the night. Muck was not as hungry as he normally is and Stich, sat mostly in her bubble bath. Rob did enjoy doing some writing under the shade of the trees. It was that "red hot" Toxic that totally enjoyed the weather! She just loved laying stretched out on the concrete! Ahh.... summer is here at ZOMBIEZOO!

Well today was a day for new chores as the Zookeeper. This is the first day that I am reporting from ZombieZoo® on this blog. I am now the official spokesperson as the Zookeeper. I have no doubt each Zombie critter will find a way to blog all by themselves. So keep posted as each Zombie Critter will awake soon.... or later, or come to life or whatever.
